The Love that Remains is a tender and surprisingly humorous portrait of an Icelandic family trying to navigate a divorce. As the seasons change, and through intimate scenes and unsettling symbolic moments, we see the bittersweet reality of fading love and shared memories.

Anna and Magnus are getting a divorce. Nevertheless, they still spend time together regularly for the benefit of their three children, Ída, and the twins, Þorgils and Grímur. Magnus works at sea and is often away from home for long periods of time. Artist Anna creates impressive works of art that do not get the recognition they deserve. In search of meaning, both parents go their separate ways in this new, strange reality. But what happens to the love that remains after a break-up?

Hlynur Pálmason (known for Godland and A White, White Day) once again shot his latest feature film with his own children and let the stunning Icelandic landscape play a major role. The Love that Remains premiered in Cannes, where Panda, who plays the lovable dog in the film, was awarded the Palm Dog.
