Sirat is a spectacular cinematic journey, in which a lost daughter, desert sand and the electronic beats of Kangding Ray create a unique film experience. The Moroccan desert serves as the imposing background to this dangerous quest, with a number of memorable moments that definitely put Spanish director Oliver Laxe (Mimosas) on the map.

Luis (Sergi López) arrives at an illegal rave deep in the desert in southern Morocco, with his young son Esteban (Bruno Núñez Arjona). He is looking for his daughter Mar, who disappeared months ago during one of these lawless parties. Desperate for one last trace of Mar, they follow a group of ravers even deeper into the desert. This becomes a physical and spiritual journey, accompanied by a hypnotic soundtrack.

Sirat won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Aside from actor Sergi López (Pan’s Labyrinth, Lazzaro Felice), Oliver Laxe mainly employs an inexperienced cast. The film was co-produced by Pedro Almodóvar’s production company and is on the Oscar shortlist for Best International Film.
