Oscar winner Mike van Diem wrote and directed this compelling and razor-sharp film based on the book “We doen wat we kunnen” (We do what we can) by Lykele Muus. Leading actors Thekla Reuten, Fedja van Huêt, Noortje Herlaar and Valentijn Dhaenens play two couples who find themselves in a moral struggle over the lives of their daughters and are willing to go to extremes in the process.

Two friendly couples have been sharing a holiday home in the Austrian Alps for years. When their teenage daughters are involved in an accident during a joint holiday, their apparent friendship quickly crumbles. Old wounds and pent-up frustrations drive the parents further and further apart when they learn that one daughter can be saved, but only if the other girl is given up. What begins as a moral dilemma devolves into an absurd battle full of manipulation and desperate actions that blur the lines of human decency. Because when it comes to your child, nothing is off limits. Right?
