The new series from the Film Club and Book & Film are online! For everyone who wants that little bit extra. At the Film Club, we’ll surprise you for eight months with the most beautiful (pre)premieres, including coffee/tea and a short introduction. The Book & Film series consists of seven book adaptations, with an introduction and reader for each screening.

Book & Film

For years, a tried and tested recipe at Focus: the Book & Film series. For reading viewers and watching readers. Starting in October, a new series will launch, consisting of seven appealing book adaptations with introductions by programmer Kim van der Werff. What makes a book easy or very difficult to adapt into a film, what choices have the creators made, and can book and film really be compared?

Because we aim for a program that is as up-to-date as possible, we can’t say in advance which books will be read, although we do try to plan as far ahead as possibleIf the current selection isn’t interesting enough, we go back to a memorable classic book adaptation: looking at offerings where we think both the book is worth reading again and the film is worth watching again.

NEW: Follow-up Discussions

Since requests to discuss the film afterwards come in regularly, next season we’ll only offer the chance to join a discussion right after the film on Mondays, both after the afternoon screening and the evening screening. These discussions take place in the theater and are guided by Kim van der Werff. Of course, participating is not mandatory.

There are two evening and two afternoon series, on Monday and Tuesday.

Film Club

The new season of the Film Club starts in October! An adventurous film program of (mostly) premieres selected and introduced by the programmers of Focus Filmtheater. The big difference from previous seasons is that, by popular demand, we have extended the new series to eight monthly screenings! There are six date series, with the same film shown each month.
