No Good Men
Director, screenwriter, and lead actress Shahrbanoo Sadat aims to present a different, more authentic picture of Afghanistan through No Good Men, using humor and romance. No Good Men opened the most recent Berlin Film Festival.
Afghanistan, 2021, shortly before the Taliban return to power. Naru, the only female camerawoman at Kabul’s leading television station, is trying to retain custody of her three-year-old son. Ever since she left her unfaithful husband, she has come to believe—like most Afghan women—that there are no good men in her country. That’s why Naru is surprised when Qodrat, Kabul TV’s top journalist, offers her a career opportunity. As they crisscross the city together to report on the final days of freedom, sparks fly between them, and Naru begins to doubt her conviction. Could there be a good man out there after all?
