Love-22-Love
The intimate documentary Love-22-Love by filmmaker Jeroen Kooijmans is an ode to love, art, and darkness. For Kooijmans, creating art is his raison d’être, but it sometimes drives him to deep despair. The footage in which he films himself as he becomes entangled in a psychosis is incredibly raw.
He reconstructs the period leading up to this moment and the long journey that followed, drawing entirely on personal archival material from himself and his beloved. Above all, Love-22-Love is a declaration of love to his wife, artist Elspeth Diederix, his anchor in life and the light at the end of his tunnel.
The film shows how love, art, and the dark corners of the psyche converge, leaving room for doubt, struggle, and ultimately insight. After 33 years—the period covered by the film—an answer unfolds to the question of how love and art can sustain and heal a life.
