La baie des anges (re-release)
The young bank clerk Jean discovers the seductive world of roulette during a visit to a casino. There he meets Jackie, a glamorous woman who lives entirely for the game and lets her life be dictated by luck, loss, and the hope for the next big win.
Together, they roam the casinos of the Côte d’Azur, where love and gambling addiction become increasingly intertwined.
After his debut film Lola, Jacques Demy created one of his most mature and melancholic films with La baie des anges. Against the stunning backdrop of Nice, he explores themes like chance, obsession, and desire—motifs that would continue to define his entire body of work. Jeanne Moreau shines in one of her most memorable roles, while Michel Legrand’s subtle score gives the film an irresistible melancholy.
