Fragments of Belonging is a tragicomic documentary about migration, motherhood, and family patterns that are in us without really knowing them. The film is about a Croatian woman living in Amsterdam who feels like a foreigner everywhere in the world and is at home nowhere.

Tatjana tells herself that she’s a resident of Europe or something. She hasn’t lived anywhere long enough to feel at home. Now she’s stuck in a notorious neighborhood in Amsterdam, with her teenage son shrinking away from her Slavic accent and her inability to act Dutch.

She’s determined to break through this and goes on a thorough search for a sense of belonging, but with a camera. She travels across Europe, knocking on the doors of family and friends who have settled somewhere as guest workers or expats.
