A subtle film adaptation of Jan Brokken’s ‘In the House of the Poet’, about his friendship with the Russian concert pianist Youri Egorov.
Amsterdam, the 1980s. When journalist Jan Brokken (a fine performance by Joes Brauers) interviews world-famous concert pianist Youri Egorov (Levan Gelbakhiani), who has fled the Soviet Union, an unexpected but close friendship develops between the two very different men. While the flamboyant Egorov embraces his freedom and his artistry, he helps the introverted Brokken find the courage to pursue his dream: becoming a writer.
Jan Brokken would go on to write many books, including ‘In the House of the Poet’, on which this film by Sander Burger is based.
