The Cycle of Love
A love story so incredibly romantic and touching that it’s still told in Swedish elementary schools. In 1975, a young Indian man named PK falls in love with a Swedish backpacker named Lotta. When she returns home, he sets off on a secondhand bicycle, with barely any money to his name, on a journey of more than 10,000 kilometers to find her again.
What follows is a breathtaking journey: straight through unfamiliar lands, over mountain passes, and through endless landscapes, constantly dependent on the help of people he meets along the way.
PK is a Dalit, a so-called “untouchable”: born at the very bottom of the Indian caste system, destined for a life of poverty and exclusion. At the same time, upon his birth, an astrologer makes a remarkable, almost impossible prediction about his future beloved. His encounter with Lotta in New Delhi seems to set this prophecy in motion. But when she fails to keep her promise to find him again, it becomes highly uncertain.
Oscar-winning director Orlando von Einsiedel (The White Helmets) brings this true story to life by retracing the journey with PK and a young actor who portrays him. Through reenactments, interviews, and encounters along the way, he weaves together the past and the present into a compelling story of love, compassion, and perseverance.
