When Brünnhilde discovers that her beloved is innocent, she finally returns the ring to the Rhine Maidens, after which she orders Valhalla to be engulfed in flames. In the long-awaited climax of Wagner’s heroic epic, director Barrie Kosky sets this gripping, apocalyptic drama in a contemporary world full of surreal turmoil. Antonio Pappano, Conductor Laureate of The Royal Opera, returns to conduct the inspired, heavenly music—including Siegfried’s moving Funeral March and Brünnhilde’s poignant final scene. The outstanding cast is led by Elisabet Strid, Andreas Schager, and Mika Kares, who, together with the full orchestra of The Royal Opera House and The Royal Opera Chorus, bring one of the most beautiful operas ever to an impressive conclusion.
