Go Short 2026: Late Night Sci-Fi in collaboration with CASA
Now that AI is among us, tech guys have set their sights on Mars, and our little spaceship Earth is under serious threat, we’ve entered the second space age. So buckle up for a special sci-fi edition of Go Short, presented by Focus and CASA, featuring five films that offer a kaleidoscopic perspective on our future.
Take a walk through a post-apocalyptic city, visit a plastic paradise where friendly replicants look after our “peoploids,” and step into the wormhole to gain an alternative perspective on colonialism in the galaxy. Perhaps we can find a glimmer of hope among these stories.

El reemplazo (Replacement)

For Nicolás, a young early retiree, life without work has lost all meaning. He hasn’t left the house in years, sees no one but his wife, and has toyed with the idea of suicide. Out of fear, his wife has hired an emotional assistant (AN-534) to keep an eye on her husband. But Nicolás’s confused mind quickly turns it into an enemy. Delusions? Perhaps. But Nicolás has no intention of being watched over in his own home by a bloodthirsty robot assistant.
Le Mouvement Tragique des Sphères (The Tragic Movement of the Spheres).

In 1995, she discovers the existence of the spheres. In 2024, he sets out to find traces of their passage. A mother and her son are confronted with the tragic secrets that have been passed down from generation to generation. From a class photo to a satellite image: the story of a revelation.
Jednorázová (Disposable)
Ivanna Kravchuck, Czech Republic, 17 min
In a world where everything is disposable, Rebeka lives in an artificial reality based on plastic. Her apartment is filled with disposable furniture; she wears her clothes only once before throwing them away; and even her food is artificial. She goes through a monotonous daily routine dictated by a society obsessed with superficiality and constant consumption.
Acid City
Jack Wedge, Will Freudenheim, USA, 13 min
Acid City is a documentary about a fictional city in the middle of a vast acidic ocean. The film follows a film crew for one day as they conduct interviews and document what life is like in this remote city. Acid City consists of real interviews conducted throughout New York City, ranging from ordinary people on the street to water scientists and emergency responders, as well as fictional characters.
A Space Exodus
Larissa Sansour, Denmark, Palestine, 5 min
The film paints a picture of the ultimate uprooting of the Palestinian experience and takes the current political impasse to an otherworldly extreme by having the first Palestinian land on the moon. “One small step for a Palestinian, one giant leap for humanity,” her voice echoes through her space helmet.
