Nu AI onder ons is, techbro’s hun zinnen hebben gezet op Mars en ons kleine ruimteschip Aarde ernstig wordt bedreigd, zijn we het tweede ruimtetijdperk binnengetreden. Dus doe je veiligheidsgordels om voor een speciale scifi-editie van Go Short, gepresenteerd door Focus en CASA, met vijf films die een caleidoscopisch perspectief bieden op onze toekomst.

Now AI is among us, techbro’s are targeting Mars and our little spaceship Earth is under severe threat, we have entered the second Space Age. So fasten your seatbelts for a special Sci-fi edition of Go Short presented by Focus and CASA with five films that give a kaleidoscopic perspective on our future.

Take a tour through a postapocalyptic city and visit plastic paradise with friendly replicants babysitting us peoploids and enter the wormhole to get an alternative view on the colonialism of the galaxy. Maybe amongst these stories, we can find a glimmer of hope.

El reemplazo (Replacement)
Alberto Ortega, Spanje, 21 min
Voor Nicolás, een jonge vervroegd gepensioneerde, heeft het leven zonder werk geen betekenis meer. Hij komt al jaren het huis niet meer uit, ziet niemand behalve zijn vrouw en heeft met de gedachte aan zelfmoord gespeeld. Uit angst heeft zijn vrouw een emotionele assistent (AN-534) ingehuurd om op haar man te letten. Maar Nicolás’ verwarde geest maakt er al snel een vijand van. Waanvoorstellingen? Misschien. Maar Nicolás is niet van plan om zich in zijn eigen huis te laten bewaken door een bloederige robotassistent.
For Nicolás, a young early retiree, life without work no longer has any meaning. He has not left the house for years, sees no one except his wife, and has flirted with the idea of suicide. Frightened, his wife has hired an emotional assistant (AN-534) to watch over her husband. But Nicolas’ deranged mind soon transforms it into an enemy. Delusional? Maybe. But Nicolas is not about to let a bloody robotic assistant watch over him in his own home.

Jednorázová (Disposable)
Ivanna Kravchuck, Tsjechië, 17 min
In een wereld waarin alles wegwerpbaar is, leeft Rebeka in een kunstmatige werkelijkheid die op plastic is gebaseerd. Haar appartement staat vol met wegwerpmeubulair, haar kleren draagt ze maar één keer en gooit ze dan weg, en zelfs haar eten is kunstmatig. Ze doorloopt een eentonige dagelijkse routine die wordt bepaald door een samenleving die geobsedeerd is door oppervlakkigheid en voortdurende consumptie.
In a world where everything is disposable, Rebeka lives in a synthetic reality built on plastic. Her apartment is filled with throwaway furniture, her clothes are worn once and tossed, and even her food is artificial. She moves through a monotonous routine shaped by a society obsessed with superficiality and constant consumption.

Acid City

Acid City is een documentaire over een fictieve stad midden in een enorme zure oceaan. De film volgt een filmploeg gedurende één dag, terwijl ze interviews afnemen en vastleggen hoe het leven er in deze afgelegen stad uitziet. Acid City bestaat uit echte interviews die in heel New York City zijn afgenomen, variërend van gewone mensen op straat tot waterwetenschappers en hulpverleners, maar ook verzonnen personages.
Acid City is a documentary about a fictional city in the middle of a great acidic ocean. The film follows a film crew over the course of one day, as they interview and document what life is like in the isolated city. Acid City is composed of real interviews conducted across NYC, ranging from regular people on the street, to water scientists and emergency responders, as well as invented characters.

A Space Exodus
Larissa Sansour, Denemarken, Palestina, 5 min
De film schetst een beeld van de ultieme ontworteling van de Palestijnse ervaring en voert de huidige politieke impasse tot een buitenaards uiterste door de eerste Palestijn op de maan te laten landen. „Een kleine stap voor een Palestijn, een reusachtige sprong voor de mensheid,” klinkt haar stem door haar ruimtehelm.
The film envisions the final uprootedness of the Palestinian experience and takes the current political predicament to its extra-terrestrial extreme by landing the first Palestinian on the moon. “A small step for a Palestinian, a giant leap for mankind,” her voice echoes through her space helmet.
