With the breeze of March coming through our window, here at Asian Movie Night we have been cooking up a springtime event! This time we bring you Kim Bora’s House of Hummingbird (2018), an acclaimed South Korean coming of age film.

In the summer of 1994’s Seoul, 14-year-old Eunhee feels disconnected from the rest of the world. As she wanders the city in search of love and purpose, forces in both her personal life and the outside world are set on emboldening the chaos around her.

Join us for this heartfelt drama on March 28 th at Focus Filmtheater Arnhem at 19:00 for Kim Bora’s heartfelt debut! In honor of this screening, we will have a short aftertalk with our guest speaker Hyeisoo Kim to discuss the wave of up-and-coming female indie directors in South Korea. Not to miss out!

Hyeisoo Kim is currently following the Research Master in Cultural Analysis at the University of Amsterdam. She focuses on critical race theory and feminist studies in an East Asian post-colonial context, partly in reflection on her own experience. Over the last five years she has been actively volunteering at Filmhuis Cavia as a programmer and host.

Asian Movie Night aims to introduce a more diverse view of Asian culture in a comfortable environment and accessible format to a broader audience. It tries to create a physical as well as online community with various cultural backgrounds who are interested in learning about different cultures, hence promoting cross-cultural communication and understanding.
