Mama’ku – From Jakarta to the Moluccas consists of the main film Mama’ku and the short film Sudah.

Mama’ku: The new documentary by Sven Peetoom (Tussen Wal en Schip – Geruisloos Indisch). An intimate film about choreographer and dancer Cheroney Pelupessy, who makes the journey to Indonesia for the first time together with her mother in search of a hidden family history.

Filmmaker Sven Peetoom has been exposing the consequences of Dutch colonial history in Indonesia for years. In this film, he follows choreographer and dancer Cheroney Pelupessy as she travels to Jakarta with her mother. It is the place where Cheroney’s mother grew up, but about which she always remained anxiously silent. During the journey, they try to confront her traumatic past together and, in doing so, grow closer. What begins as a search for a forgotten family history unfolds into a poignant portrait of tensions, traumas, and the hope for connection.

Sudah: This short film by director Aldo Agaatsz revolves around a mother and daughter with Indonesian roots, a family secret, and the question of whether they dare to make the journey to Indonesia together.
